Not many people in the world are as versed in new web development and design technology as Paul Irish. In this video, he runs through some pretty advanced optimization that takes advantage of modern browsers and hardware.

If you build websites, and care about performance, you can benefit from this, even if you aren’t a jQuery wizard.

Just understanding how websites are rendered by browsers, and code is calculated can help you avoid wasting precious resources on re-rendering your pages.

Of note for me, was how we can now tell the browser to use the GPU to render effects, for smoother animation.

To me this is really one of the most exciting aspects of HTML5. While giving us the tools to make our websites more efficient, it also allows us to take advantage of our advanced hardware.

Thanks again to Paul Irish, whose work is advancing web technology.
